Magnetar is a 12-voice polyphonic pulsar synthesizer with comb filter feedback, vibecoded using Gemini. It’s occasionally grainy, somewhat unpredictable, but can produce some great nasally tones and silky pads. It may not be the best pulsar synthesis engine, and a bit resource-intensive and buggy, but It’s a lovely, flexible little script.
Magnetar was created at a time when there were few pulsar synthesis options on the market, let alone polyphonic ones. After completing NARF, I decided to try vibecoding a more complicated project, and a pulsar synthesizer would require interlocking lua and supercollider files.
Similar to NARF, the process went well for most aspects of logic and animation, but display of text and behavior needed considerable tweaking, as did honing the feature-set and improving performance.
